doorplate-diy started as a one-off — a single e-ink sign on a recording-studio door so nobody walked in mid-take. It worked so well that friends asked for one. Then the friends-of-friends.

We're shipping it as a real product because the alternatives are bad: enterprise meeting-room signs cost $400 and need a tablet, a subscription, and an IT department. Every DIY tutorial assumes you want to spend a weekend reading datasheets.

So we made the firmware free and open-source, and the hardware available in the form that fits you — from a parts kit you assemble in an afternoon, to a hand-finished designer edition that just works.
